Frequently Asked Questions:

How many people are in the club?
Last year, we had over 150 people come out to our one-day fun tournaments. In league-play, we had over 40 people from all sorts of different programs in undergraduate and graduate studies.
I’ve never curled before, can I still join?
Definitely! Lots of people curl with us for the first time. If you’re interested in trying it but you’re not sure whether you want to commit to a whole season yet, come on out to our open house. However, we recommend not waiting till then to decide whether you want to curl, because all the spaces will definitely be filled up by early September this season. More details will be posted on this website as they become available. And check out our new Intro to Curling page.
But wait! I’ve been curling for fifteen years, can I still join?
For sure! Our members range in experience — from nil to about 15 years. We can place you in a team or you can organize your own and join with friends.
I hear there’s a fee for joining, is that true?
There is a fee for playing in the weekly leagues, but because of our special U of T Curling Club discount it’s one of the lowest you will find anywhere for a full season of curling. The fee is paid to the East York Curling Club, not to the U of T Curling Club. For around $300 you can play in one of ┬áthe men’s, women’s or the mixed leagues. That’s 25 weeks of curling!
There are also registration fees for our bonspiels, but they’re paid for separately so no year-long commitment is required for playing in these events.

Great, so how do I join?

Get in touch with us before our open house if you want to join the club. Send an email to utoronto.curling@gmail.com.
When does the season start?
The ice goes in at East York in early October. The leagues generally begin the second week of that month.
Do curlers really scream and yell on the ice?
Yes we do, and you can do it too! You’d be surprised but screaming at your friends can be a very liberating experience!
